5. Cookies and analytics

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, understand how visitors use it, improve performance and support marketing or analytics activity.

Some cookies are necessary for the website to function. Others, such as analytics or marketing cookies, are only set if you consent. When you first visit our website you will see a cookie banner asking you to accept or reject non-essential cookies. Non-essential cookies are not set unless you accept.

We store your choice in a cookie called mcg_consent so we do not ask you on every visit. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer of any page, or by clearing cookies in your browser settings.

We currently use two analytics tools. Umami, which we host ourselves at stats.mcgideon.com, records page views, referring sites and general device and location information. It does not use cookies, does not store anything on your device and does not store personal data, so it runs whether or not you accept cookies. Microsoft Clarity records how visitors interact with pages (for example scrolling and clicks) and uses cookies, so it only runs if you accept analytics cookies. Clarity is provided by Microsoft Corporation; its privacy statement is at privacy.microsoft.com.

Our website also has a live chat box, provided by Crisp. It sets a small number of functional cookies whose only job is to keep your conversation continuous if you move between pages or come back later. It does not identify you until you choose to type a message or give your name or email, so it runs whether or not you accept analytics cookies. Anything you write in the chat is stored by Crisp and visible to us. Crisp is provided by Crisp IM SAS, based in France; its privacy policy is at crisp.chat/en/privacy.

6. Information in our intelligence products

Our Who Won What extracts and Weekly Intelligence Reports include the names, job titles and business contact details of people at public bodies, housing providers and contractors, such as procurement officers, commercial managers and project leads. We collect this from published tender and award notices, committee papers, responses to Freedom of Information requests, company websites and professional profiles, and we provide it so that subscribers can make a specific business approach about the work described.

We process this information on the basis of our legitimate interests and those of our subscribers in business-to-business communication about public contracts. We only use business contact details, never home addresses or personal accounts, and we require subscribers to use them lawfully and only for the purpose described. If you appear in our content and would prefer not to, contact us at hello@mcgideon.com and we will remove your details from future editions.

9. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. As a general guide:

We may keep information for longer where needed to deal with a legal claim, dispute, regulatory matter or legitimate business record-keeping requirement.

10. How we protect information

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure.

No website, email system or online transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. However, we work to keep personal information safe and limit access to people and providers who need it.
